Taipei, July 16, 2003 (CENS)--Gemtek Technology Co. said yesterday that its development efforts in striving for orders from international makers have paid off as it has gained wireless network card and AP orders from Motorola recently.
Gemtek Technology expects to start trial delivery to Motorola in June. It predicts that the delivery will reach one million units within one year.
Since the beginning of 2002, Gemtek Technology has engaged in the development of international makers for its wireless local area network products, thus avoiding focusing on the retail market. To this end, the firm has gained large sized PC orders from Dell and new HP.
Regarding the telecom market, Gemtek Technology has also developed other international clients such as South Korea Telecom and Spanish Telecom last year. The firm declined to comment on the recent order from Motorola, however.
An expert in mobile handsets, Motorola has developed new business by setting up a Connected Home Department in early 2003. Motorola expects to further develop its business in both broadband and family network markets.
With increasing orders from new clients, Gemtek Technology raked in revenue of NT$692 million in June, a new high figure for four straight months. Its pretax earnings per share (EPS) is estimated to reach around NT$3 for the first half.
Regarding the third quarter, Gemtek Technology expects that the delivery ratio of its 802.11g products will grow significantly. The delivery of PC bundled modules will also grow sharply at the same time.
In the first half, the firm delivered about 2.7 million WLAN products. The delivery of notebook PCs with bundled modules totaled about 600,000 units and is expected to hit 1.2 million units for the entire year year.
Gemtek Technology expects to deliver a total of over WLAN products this year.
